The Research Council of Zimbabwe (RCZ) Board Chairperson and Board Members are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Partson Chikudza as the RCZ substantive Executive Director effective 01 May 2024. His appointment is in compliance with Section 17 (2) of the Public Entities Corporate Governance Act [Chapter 10:31].
Dr Chikudza is a renowned researcher and an expert in governance. Before joining the Research Council of Zimbabwe, he was a Director in the Office of the President and Cabinet in the Chief Secretary’s Office. He has over thirty (30) years of senior-level experience in the Ministry of Education, and Public Service Commission. He has lectured and reviewed modules at some State Universities in Zimbabwe. Dr Chikudza has various experience as Board member of some State Enterprises , Parastatals and Zim-Sino Capacity Building Programmes as well as establishment and implementation of the Museum of African Liberations Projects. He is a holder of a PhD in Social Science Development Studies, a Masters in Development Studies and a degree in Public Administration and Development Studies among other various qualifications.
Dr Chikudza brings a wealth of knowledge in strategic thinking, diplomacy, capacity development, research, policy formulation and analysis.
The Research Council of Zimbabwe (RCZ) was established in 1986 to promote, direct, supervise and coordinate research. One of the major functions of RCZ is advising Government on issues of research for sustainable development. RCZ also provides an exceptional forum for interaction and discussion for the mutual benefit of Government, academia and industrialists. In addition, it is a convenient conduit for financial and infrastructural support for collaborative research among research institutes and councils. RCZ’s role is that of a catalyst, having identified broad areas of concern, it consults and brings together relevant experts to define a programme of work and to seek out sources of funds. The RCZ establishes and maintains links with professional bodies and centers of excellence to enhance the quality of its role as a facilitator of national and international collaboration. RCZ activities are regulated by the Research Act [Chapter 10:22].

In 2011, Government approved the National Research Priorities. The Research Council of Zimbabwe (RCZ) played a major role in developing these priorities. The national research priorities are a set of theme areas towards which financial and other resources will be deliberately directed.
