Tobacco Industry & Marketing Board (TIMB)

The Tobacco Industry & Marketing Board (TIMB) is a Zimbabwean regulatory and advisory statutory board whose functions include controlling and regulating the growing, marketing and exporting of tobacco in Zimbabwe. In 1936, through the Tobacco Marketing and Levy Act, the Tobacco Marketing Board was formed resulting in the selling of tobacco through the Auction Floors and, later, Contract floors (from 2004). The Tobacco Marketing and Levy (Amendment) Act of 1997 saw the Tobacco Marketing Board being renamed to the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board. The Board caters for the interests of all classes of different types of tobacco growers, buyers and other stakeholders.

What We Do

Regulation

Administration and control of tobacco production, marketing and exporting. We register all types of tobacco growers; control and regulate the exchange of all Zimbabwean produced tobacco between growers and merchants; licence tobacco buyers, auction floors and commercial graders as well as ensure timeous and efficient shipment of tobacco exports.

Special Projects

We have special projects to assist tobacco growers produce high quality tobacco e.g. the Centralized Tobacco Production Facilities which assists growers to get financial support through loan guarantees. The irrigation infrastructural development programme avails irrigation infrastructure such as pivots to tobacco growers on lease.

We are committed to sustainable tobacco production without deforestation, child and forced labour. We are working with the Sustainability Afforestation Association (SAA) to establish eucalyptus plantations whose eventual use will be tobacco curing. We are protecting the future today through sustainable operations.
